BBC Worldwide Channels

Julie Swanston is Vice President of Commissioning for BBC Worldwide Channels, overseeing the original commissions and co-productions pipeline for the Channels arm of BBC Worldwide. In her 30 Minutes With session, she will talk about her wish list for the new global genre brands BBC Brit, a male-skewing factual entertainment channel and BBC Earth which will be a destination channel for premium factual content.

Julie focuses on commissioning original content for BBC Brit and BBC Earth, two of the three brand new global BBC genre brands set for launch on a market-by-market basis in 2014/2015. Julie also works closely with the BBC’s broader international Channels network, BBC AMERICA, and BBC counterparts in the UK.

Previously Julie worked as an Executive Producer at BBC Worldwide across brand new factual entertainment programmes including the 2014 the Emmy nominated Wild Things with Dominic Monaghan S2 (starring Lord of the Rings actor and wildlife enthusiast Dominic Monaghan); Almost Royal (BBC AMERICA’s first original comedy-reality sold to E4 in July 2014); Mud, Sweat and Gears (starring car-mad

Brits Tom ‘Wookie’ Ford and Jonny Smith, due for release in 2014/15). Due to Julie’s role being jointly split with BBC AMERICA, she spent time travelling to see the teams working across the flagship US cable channel.

Before joining BBC Worldwide, Julie worked at UKTV as a Commissioning Editor across Dave, Watch and Gold (jointly owned by BBC Worldwide and Scripps International) identifying and developing a portfolio of titles including the new incarnation of Yes, Prime Minister for Gold and Red Bull Soap Box for Dave.
